Continuous Casting Size Capabilities:
Solids: 0.5” to 9” OD and lengths up to 144”
Tubes: 1.125” to 9” OD and lengths up to 144”
Rectangles: 4” x 15” and lengths up to 384” or more
Tolerances range from 0.020” – 0.125” depending on shape and size as-cast
Surface Finish: 200 – 400 RMS as-cast
Continuous Casting Process Description:
Continuous casting is a process that delivers cast product in a near net shape reducing machining cost. Premium quality continuous cast bars and shapes are straight, true and concentric to keep your high speed bar machining centers running. Many non-traditional shapes are also available.
In the continuous casting process, molten metal is poured through a die of the desired outside profile. If an inner shape is also desired, the material may flow around a mandrel to create that profile. As the material flows through the water cooled die, sufficient heat is extracted to solidify an outer shell. As the shape continues to solidify, the material is drawn continuously through pull rolls.
When to use Continuous Castings:
Solid bars or tubes requiring further machining
When shape or profile can be cast in to reduce machining cost
Variety of volume, including small usage
When high quality starting material required that is straight, true and concentric
